Pregnancy is already, well, not easy. You experience a lot of discomfort every now and then, changes to almost all the body parts, weird cravings, and a lot more. Now, the thought of having another form of pain is just too much but still, some women are brave enough to have their hair ripped off with warm wax. The question is, “can you get a Brazilian wax while pregnant?”

Browsing online, you may see a lot of posts telling you to ditch this hair removal method when you’re an expectant mom. They say that the level of hormone during pregnancy increases, thus making the skin more sensitive. This means that you’re more prone to skin irritation and swelling. But if you don’t mind taking a little bit more of discomfort or you just want to feel relieved from the itch down there, having a Brazilian wax is totally fine! I’ve personally wax many pregnant women that are in their first trimester, 2nd trimester, 3rd trimester and I’ve even wax women the day before their due dates!

That being said, it is okay and safe to have a Brazilian wax even if you’re pregnant, just be sure to consult your doctor for the extra advice you need or you can book an appointment with us now. You can also apply a soothing lotion before or after the hair removal session to lessen any swelling or redness that might occur.

Still confused whether you should have your pubic hair waxed or opt for a razor instead? Here’s a quick comparison.

Hair Grows Back Quicker When Shaving

Sure, shaving is cheaper and more accessible. All you have to do is go to your bathroom, grab a razor, and work your way until all the fuzz is gone. But what if your belly is big enough that you can’t even bend comfortably. Also, what if you want to save time from grooming?

With shaving, you can see your hair growing back again in just a couple of days and worse, it grows back thicker. Eek!

As a fan of hair waxing, I noticed a huge difference after getting a Brazilian wax. The first time I had it, it lasts for about a couple of weeks, which is longer compared to shaving. But after a few sessions, I’m completely hair-free for about a month, which is definitely amazing! Also, the hair that grows back is finer and lighter, making it less painful than the first wax session.

As you continue waxing over time, the hair follicle is damaged. This either makes the hair grow thinner than before or even stop it from growing back. However, this is still a case-to-case basis and it depends on the person’s hair growth cycle.

Shaving Is Hard When You Are Pregnant

Do I really need to paint a picture here? I’m sure we all agree that trying to shave during your pregnancy especially in the third trimester is a task! Don’t do it, just get waxed.

Shaving Is Less Painful, But…

Obviously, shaving doesn’t involve lifting or ripping off any hair thus it is pain-free — almost! If you’re using the right tools and technique, you can have your bush removed without feeling any discomfort. The downside of using a razor, however, is annoying. If you’ve done this hair removal method, you may have noticed a few pimples, ingrown, and of course, razor burns! In addition, you may also experience redness, irritation, and a few cuts.

Waxing, on the other, can really be painful depending on the wax and technique. After all, you’re using wax to uplift the hair in one of your most sensitive parts. Also, this depends on the level of your pain tolerance, the thickness of your hair, and the esthetician involved. At Waxing By Celeste, we use a combination of hard wax, soft wax, and our very own natural sugar wax to minimize the pain, improve the effectiveness of our hair removal technique, and to cater to all the skin types, including sensitive skin. Thousands of clients have tried and loved this technique so if you want your intimate part hair-free, we got you covered! Call us now or book an appointment on our website.

Take note: Waxing your private parts can still lead to inflammation and ingrown hairs, which you can address using aftercare tips and exfoliation. But, if symptoms persist, you can always head back to the waxing salon.

Shaving Is A Cheaper But,

For obvious reasons, shaving is pretty cheaper compared to a waxing service. However, the cost can add up if you’re always breaking the razor. So if you want another affordable option, you can opt for a DIY home removal but then again, you need to spend money to complete the right supplies including strips, the wax itself, applicators, pre-wax and post-wax cleanser, and powder.

Waxing at the salon, on the other hand, can be expensive but still, it depends on several factors such as the location of the waxing salon, the kind of service they offer, their facility, and the style you want to get. Our service is $45 and while it’s not the cheapest waxing service in San Diego, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth!

DIY Home Removal

Aside from a razor, there are other ways to remove hair on your own. Waxing strips, which can be brought from drugstores, can be used to address the hair on your bikini line. Just be sure to follow the instructions to avoid irritation and for long lasting results. Also, check out the necessary aftercare tips you can use once the hair removal method is done.

Meanwhile, if you think that this is not a convenient option especially with your growing tummy, you can always opt for a professional service. We don’t advise you to wax yourself when pregnant. Got to a specialist.

Choosing A Waxing Salon

Before you worry about the style you want or whether you want your genital hair removed completely, the first thing you should consider is the salon you’ll go to. Not all waxing services are created equal and an expensive rate doesn’t always mean that it’s the best quality. You need to be extra careful with whom you are dealing with especially for the first time. After all, you don’t want a single experience to stop you from having a Brazilian wax, don’t you?

When choosing a salon, you can start through referral. Ask your friends, family, or colleagues if they prefer any specific facility for this service and make a shortlist out of it. You can also check the results online. Check out the reviews from their previous clients to know if the salon is worth visiting or not. Do they offer great customer service? How far is their salon from your place? Are their prices reasonable enough? What waxing techniques and products do they use? It pays to know as much as possible about the establishment before visiting it personally.

What To Expect Before, During, And After A Brazilian Wax

The esthetician may start by clipping of your hair to a quarter of an inch, but at our spa, we don’t clip anything.

Most facilities will provide a robe or towel to cover your private area.
The esthetician will allow you to discuss your options. Basically, our Brazilian wax means ripping the entire hair. However, there are people who want to leave a mini landing strip. Find out what you want and discuss it comfortable with our waxing professionals.

You’ll be asked to lie down on your back and spread your legs apart. Don’t be shy, you’re being handled by a professional. *wink! Talcum powder might be dusted to prevent the wax from sticking to your skin when using soft wax.

Once the waxing begins, you may start to feel pain or discomfort especially on more tender portions; you may also bleed slightly especially if it’s your first time. However, the pain doesn’t really last.
You may be asked to turn over when dealing with your butt cheeks, which is a little awkward at first but you’ll get used to it. Don’t worry most waxing specialist do this all day every day.
When the waxing’s done, the esthetician will do a final check and use a tweezer to gently remove any stray hairs.
To finish the session, a soothing lotion will be applied to reduce redness or inflammation.
