Visiting a spa for a Brazilian wax might be the lasting on your mind, especially if it’s your first time. The thought of putting hot wax off your vagina only to rip off the hair around it can be terrifying enough. However, this hair removal method is almost 10 times better compared to shaving. Yes, it may still result in bumps and ingrown hair but there are more things you should be happy about after having this.

Also, there are ways on how you can minimize the pain and avoid irritation before, during, and after waxing. Men and women, who want to remove the entire hair in their intimate area, can benefit a lot from these tips. So without further ado, let’s get started!

Brazilian Waxing Tips Before The Session

A hot wax placed on the skin’s surface and a swift motion to remove the hair may be a gruesome sight but did you know that you can reduce the discomfort during the treatment? I’ve talked to different clients and if there’s one thing that helped them overcome their first Brazilian wax experience, that would be to get ready.

Preparation is the key!

The first thing that you want to do, before having your pubic hair ripped off, is to look for a certified therapist or aesthetician to do the waxing. There are a lot of people claiming that they can do the service; however, that doesn’t mean that they can do it correctly and safely. It’s not only your money who’s on the line here, but it’s also your confidentiality and safety so as much as possible, only choose spas with a good reputation. Moreover, find an expert whose specialty is bikini waxing. Remember, your genitals have very sensitive skin and you want someone who really knows how to remove the hair gently and effectively.

Here are more ways on how you can get yourself ready before a Brazilian wax:

Seek Referrals
Whether it’s another family member, a friend, or a colleague — ask if they can refer a salon with a good reputation when it comes to bikini waxing. Talking to someone you know and trust is a perfect way to find the right waxing salon. Otherwise, you can use the search on the Internet. Just make sure that you read reviews from their previous clients to know more about their service. If it’s your first time to visit the salon, you can have minor services first such as underarm wax or lip wax to check if you’re comfortable and satisfied with their service and facility.

Book An Appointment On The Right Time
While there’s no problem having a Brazilian wax while on a period, it’s still better to have this at least one to two weeks after your menstruation. This time, your skin is not as sensitive as it is when you have your monthly visitor.

Take Note: If you’re going to our salon for a Brazilian or bikini wax and you have a period, we advise that you wear a tampon for hygiene purposes.

Grow Your Hair To The Right Length
The hair in your genitals has to be at least quarter of an inch long so that the wax can hold on to it properly; however, if it’s too long, it can be more painful or may only cause to breakage. Nonetheless, it’s better than having it short since the therapist can still trim it before the actual waxing begins.

Keep Yourself Clean
Before going to a salon, we advise that you clean your bikini area using warm water. It’s also ideal to lightly exfoliate your genitals prior to waxing. This will make the procedure faster and easier. Most spas provide baby wipes which you can use before the waxing begins.

Skip The Lotions, Oils, Or Cream
Lotions, oils, and cream will only make the area slippery, thus making it hard for the wax to adhere on the hair. Therefore, it’s best to ditch these before getting a Brazilian wax.

Take A Pain Reliever
Advil, Tylenol, or any pain reliever is recommended before a Brazilian wax, especially if it’s your first time. Take it at least an hour before the session begins if you’re worried about any discomfort.

Brazilian Waxing Tips During The Session

This is it!

You’re about to get started but before anything else, make sure that you know what you really want. Brazilian wax, originally, means removing the entire hair in your vagina, perineum, and anus but, if you want a mini landing strip in front (like what some of our clients request), be sure to talk about it with our therapist. You can create whatever style you want and all you have to do is communicate with our licensed aesthetician.

Most salons, however, may recommend that you have a bikini wax first rather than a Brazilian just to know how it feels like. Bikini wax only removes the hair around the bikini line, thus the pain is not too much. Nonetheless, it’s your call! *wink

During the session, you might be asked to pull the skin and shift to different positions so the therapist can get the hair easily. Also, even if you’ve popped a painkiller, you might still feel a little bit of discomfort, depending on your pain threshold.

Brazilian Waxing Tips After The Session

Congrats! You’ve survived the challenge, but it doesn’t end there. In order to avoid irritation, inflammation, and infection, you need to follow a few aftercare tips for Brazilian wax. The first thing you have to remember is to wear loose pants and underwear for about a couple of days. Other tips include:

Not touching the newly waxed skin. We know it’s tempting especially now that it’s softer and smoother but to avoid small pimples and irritation, you have to stop yourself from doing so.

Showering instead of taking a hot bath. Lying in a tub full of warm water after a long, hard day is a reward; however, this is a big no-no after a Brazilian wax. After the session, the pores in your skin are wide open and this can only lead to infection. If you want to clean yourself, you can take a shower instead.
For the next two days, avoid sauna, tanning beds, steam rooms, or even jacuzzi.

Ditch sex. C’mon girl, this is only for a couple of days. Avoid sex as this only adds friction and may worsen the condition of an already-sensitive skin.
Exfoliate after 48 hours and if there’s no sign of irritation or redness, use a mild exfoliator to remove dead skin cells and avoid ingrown hair.
